If you had worked away from a certain island, and at the worst possible moment, you started wanting to go back to that island, could you expect that what you've done so far turn you way to your desired end?
I don't think so. If you've made effort to run away and escape, you're turned little by little towards an angle where you can no longer cross the point you had wanted to meet. The currents will sail you towards what the wind commands, and hoping to take control of the steering wheel is anything but a success.
You pray that Neptune would bid the tides to wash you away to the shore.
